Why this material is solid even though it looks dated. NIMA Pub 1310 was last updated in 1994 and predates ARPA target tracking, AIS overlay, and integrated chartplotter radars. The fundamentals — propagation, beam, vector triangle, CPA — haven't changed. Modern radars do many of the manual steps automatically, but if you understand the manual procedure you understand what the box is doing for you.
